Throw The Book At ‘Em
Des Moines Register has an interesting article about what books convicts are reading in the Anamosa State Penitentiary in Iowa.
Steve Hebron, treatment director, says Anamosa's prison contains the "worst of the worst," rapists and killers and assorted swindlers, druggies and thieves. But the books are great. Reading is a great time-killer. On one day in November, 350 of the 1,270 inmates have a total of about 400 books checked out.
"It's an escape, which is a word we don't like to use too much around here," Hebron said.
