Books have come
This week, two books in the post. Very welcome. Tom McCarthy’s Remainder arrives after an excellent review in the TLS. The publisher, Paris-based Metronome Press, is producing some beautiful editions. Also, don’t miss The Necronautical Society of which Tom is the General Secretary. Its first manifesto declares that ‘death is a type of space, which we intend to map, enter, colonise and, eventually, inhabit.’ Who can, or will, resist?
Also, WW Norton has sent Dara Horn’s The World to Come. The publisher’s note describes it as “a dynamic hybrid of Nicole Krauss’ The History of Love and Milan Kundera’s philosophical flights of fancy.”
Other Splinters posts of interest:
- Necronauts Death: the final frontier. Well, no, …
- Worst reads
- Gateways to Hell
- Czech mate
- The Man from Uncle TV

I’ve just read the very fine “Fat Mountain Scenes” by Phyllis Kiehl also published by Metronome. Certainly a publisher to keep an eye on - and yes, their books look lovely.
