Censored Preface To Animal Farm

Written by:Chris Mitchell.

Apparently George Orwell’s original preface to Animal Farm was censored - you can read the preface here, along with a useful introduction to it by Robert Weaver.

A good intro by Weaver, in a few brief paragraphs he gets it dead right about Orwell, while many write millions of words getting it wrong.

I agree with Weaver whole-heartedly, except for that I seriously doubt Orwell would ever have succumbed to the path of Burnham (or Hitchens for that matter.) His commitment to the Labour movement was too great and undying.

I think his shameful “naming” of “sympathisers”, though totally objectionable, really was an abberation and the misjudgement of a sick man, not representative.
