Bertie Marshall - Berlin, Bromley
Back in November 2004, Spike published an excerpt of Bertie Marshall’s punk memoir Berlin, Bromley. Chronicling his time as a teenager amongst the Bromley Contingent, the original bunch of Sex Pistols fans that included Siouxsie Sioux and Billy Idol, Berlin, Bromley promised to be a vital insight into those strange days of punk first taking off in England. At the time of publishing the extract here, Bertie didn’t have a book deal - however, I’m very pleased to say that Berlin, Bromley will be published in April this year by SAF Publishing. The book is already listed on Amazon and comes complete with an introduction by Jon Savage.
Marshall is also the author of the novel Psychoboys. Spike published an extract of Psychoboys back in 1997 (warning: not for the faint hearted) and I did an interview with Bertie around the same time about the book. I also put together a website for Bertie a long time ago that’s still at www.bertiemarshall.co.uk.
I wrote about SAF Publishing’s biography of electro pioneers Suicide previously - which I’d still very much like to read. Hint, hint…
