Chris Fox: The Devil’s Halo
Just arrived in the post this morning - 21st century spy thriller The Devil's Halo by Chris Fox. Chris and I had a brief chat by email where he passed on some of the reviews of his book - Kirkus in particular gave it a glowing thumbs-up - and info about its central premise of looking into the future about the next big clash of world powers. The Devil's Halo pitches a vision of a Greater Europe which includes Russia against America, old allies turning on one another through their respective attempts to dominate outer space.
I haven't read it yet, but it seems to have the usual bits of a spy thriller - hero, family in danger, espionage, imminent global apocalypse, all that stuff. All of that with a 21st century twist and it should be fun to read. Here's the Kirkus snip that got my attention: "The warp-drive action—space travel, grim assassinations and continent-hopping—as the Westons try to outwit their pursuers and convince the American authorities of imminent peril, will certainly keep readers hooked. (Jerry Bruckheimer, take note.) But the narrative also serves up a thematic stew that should leave Americans—particularly the defenders of “freedom fries”—with ample food for thought." Chris Fox also has a Flash-driven website to promote the book at www.TheDevilsHalo.co.uk

I’ve read this book and I’m frankly astonished that you give space on Splinters to such a pile of right-wing Bushist drivel. As on of the author’s fellow rabid anti-European loons might say, Puh-leeeze!
