Some situation
Zapping the channels yesterday, I noticed a close-up of a book and its handwritten dedication. I paused my zapping finger. It was a new game show presented by Carol Vorderman called The Golden Lot. Two contestants had to decide whether the book - which Vorderman called 'a revolutionary book of 1959' - was worth more than a fancy set of draughts. They chose the book. And yes, they chose right. It was worth ?5,000! The show's resident 'expert' was then brought on to explain why it was worth so much. "Well Carol, it is considered to be an incredibly important book by collectors". Carol thanked him, applause rang out and the contestants hugged.
For a moment, there was another close-up of the dedication. It was in French but I could read the name signed at the bottom: Guy Debord.

What a wasted opportunity. They could have had a fruitful discussion about commodity fetishism and the jackets of Richard Whiteley.
Guy would be proud
hurray.
