The Song That Was Number One When You Were Born

In the States, anyway. Check here for yours. Mine is Candy Man by Sammy Davis, Jr, which I can live with. Perusing the whole list that runs from the 1940s to the present day there are some other wonders which were number one on my birthday - Elvis' "Heartbreak Hotel", Aretha's "Respect", "Paint It Black" by the Stones...but Paul bastard motherfucking McCarthey has been number one on my birthday four sodding times with his cheery low-key with my millions thumbs up drivel. No wonder I feel cursed.

Try this one instead. The UK chart might filter out some of that McChaff.

  2. Ben.H says:

Oh no! Rolf Harris!!!! DAMN YOU UK!!!

  3. Chris says:

T Rex – Metal Guru. Fucking get in!

Thankyou Walker, you have brought a smile back to my McCartney wizened face

  4. Ben G says:

No such respite for me. US -”Torn Between Two Lovers” by Mary McGregor, UK -”Don’t Give Up On Us” by David Soul. Dear Jesus.

If only I was 13 years younger, I could have had that infinitely wise and rueful rumination on the mysteries of love “Opposites Attract by Paula Abdul and MC Skat Kat. Infinitely preferable.

  5. Reese says:

Damn. Elton John’s “Crocodile Rock.” I’ve never loved that song.

By the way, thanks for this.
