A Spark goes out
Just a quick word of tribute to Muriel Spark, who has died aged 88. The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie was a great book, and the film wasn't bad either. RIP.

Another Update: Fatuous/whimsical observation alert: Having read the obituaries I came to wonder whether there wasn't some weird alchemic equation whereby a girl with a Jewish dad and a Protestant mum who nontheless ends up tangled with Catholicism will invariably grow up to be one of the great all-time witty female writers. After all, I'm sure there was another one.......
