Forgotten Classics

by Chris Mitchell on May 23, 2006

Spike contributor Jerome De Groot now writes a regular column in Time Out magazine called Forgotten Classics. “‘Reading neglected writers so you don’t have to’ – A Time Out (London) column and a blog for books that seem to be undeservedly forgotten, from John Galsworthy to Rose Macaulay, from Amos Tutuola to DH Lawrence, from W. Somerset Maugham to Fanny Burney. What books do you think we should revive? If you love a writer who has lapsed in popularity please let me know”.

For those of us that are bereft of Laanddan media publications, Jerome’s also been posting his columns on a blog of the same name – Forgotten Classics, where you can read the extended version of his recent TO column on Somerset Maugham and some other bits and pieces by other contributors to the blog. Jerome’s choice for June is Sylvia Townsend Warner. Let him know if you’ve got any suggestions – I’m sure Steve could think of a few neglected authors…

75% of the writers I like are neglected. The other 25% are misunderstood.
