G’n'G’s Mithering

There's a diverting interview with Gilbert and George in today's Observer, though the lack of imagary in the online version detracts a great deal.

I'm almost embarassed at my consistent enjoyment of the pair's work. Even in their 60s theirs is a fundamentally teenage aesthetic. Profound, yes, but garishly so with no subtlety. Childishly aching to shock. Yet at their best when I see one of their images it just doesn't leave me, ever. Similar I suppose to the thrills I still get from the old punk music I still won't leave alone, even as the dread age of 30 garottes me within two weeks.
