Mr Wilson. He Dead.

Written by:Chris Mitchell.

It was only just over 2 years ago that Craig Johnson did his epic Spike interview with Tony Wilson on the rebirth of Factory Records as F4. Now Mr Wilson is dead after a short and too brief battle with kidney cancer. Gutted. 57 was way too early for him to go.

Very sad indeed. Tony was a pretentious and self-important character, but crucially he was fully aware of this fact and was the first to admit it. Its a strange and rare man who makes a film to aggrandise his own life (24 Hr Party People), and then promotes it by putting up posters featuring his face with the word “twat” written across it!
He managed to be very likable almost despite himself.

His genuine enthusiasm and passion for ideas is next-to-unique in a “businessman”, and for that alone he stood out. His influence was positive and immense. I’m shocked he’s died so young and he wil be missed. Rest In Peace.
