Fond farewell to Studs Terkel, glad good riddance to the Republicans

by Ben Granger on November 5, 2008

Studs Terkel, the brilliant chronicler of American life over the past half century has died at the grand old age of 96. Scarcely can a life have been so well lived. As I wrote here some months back, the Studs Terkel Reader makes for wonderful reading.

A great shame he didn’t hold on a few more days to see Obama’s victory, in the very city Studs loved so much and did so much to bring to life for the world.

Amidst all the grand rhetoric – some greatly deserved, some which will no doubt be rued not too far down the line – let’s not forgot the joyful negatives. Let’s not forget that excellent as it is a black man has become President, don’t forget that  the Republican administration, perhaps the most disgusting government in US history is soon to be out on its ear. Savour the writhing, malicious, moronic spleen in the rantings of its apologists,  laugh at the blank despair in their tiny, empty hearts. Go enjoy yourselves!
