Oi!
Fun and illuminating article by Alexis Petridis in today's Guardian about Oi!, the "most misuderstood music genre in history" according to Garry Bushell. Rough, ready,profoundly working-class, Oi! is indellibly but (largely) unfairly associated with the racist National Front /British Movement Right in the media mind when most of the bands and fans alike were either street level socialist (the Angelic Upstarts) or apolitical (Cockney Rejects) . Even Bushell, latterly a Tory boor, was a Leftist at the time. They were mainly violent football hooligans though. Funny old world innit? I do enjoy a bit of Oi! from time to time (all in moderation, like flying saucer sweets), here's two good'uns
