Two very interesting articles in today’s Guardian Music Section – firstly the weird backstory of James Williamson as he rejoins the Stooges. Bizarrely, the great proto-punk progenitor has until recently been a senior executive at Sony Electronics. Alexis Petridis is quite right about how viciously outstanding Raw Power is, do yourself a favour and buy it if you haven’t. Elsewhere, a look at the tradition of putting “proper” poetry to pop music, as Mike Scott of the Waterboys performs Yeats. I’d like to see some band have a go at Larkin.
