Alan Sillitoe has died at the age of 82. Sillitoe did much to give working-class realism a voice in post-war British literature. I've only read his best known works, Saturday Night and Sunday Morning and The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner, but they were great -vibrant, authentic, the lot. The films weren't bad either.
