Signals in literature

Fascinating article by Tom McCarthy on the history of technology in literature, claiming "each technological appendage, to a large degree, embodies an absence, a loss." McCarthy argues  mill, factory and radio were the lifeblood of literary modernism, and argues well. One thing though, "from Cervantes to Joyce" would have made much more sense as a subtitle, as Ballard is barely mentioned - note to subs, alliteration isn't everything (this coming from the serial alliteration abuser himself.)

One Response to Signals in literature

  1. Francesco Sinibaldi says:

    The bridge of the darkness.

    In the dust
    there’s a ray
    of light and
    the first feeling
    of a sadness,
    and there, in
    your eyes,
    there’s a delicate
    movement…
